About AFPCU

New Name:

We have Recently updated the name of our credit union (formerly Akron Firefighters Credit Union) to better reflect the membership we serve: we are now Akron Fire Police Credit Union.

Our History:

We began as the Akron Fire Department Credit Union more than 80 years ago. Our name later became Akron Firefighters Credit Union and membership expanded to firefighters and their families throughout Northeast Ohio. Membership is now open to include all First Responders. In 2016, we merged the Akron Police Department Credit Union into our membership.

Why choose us?

  • Our products and services are developed for the specific needs of our members. We strive to make convenience and accessibility a priority.

  • Our volunteer Board of Directors consists of both active and retired first responders whose mission is to provide superior financial services to membership at a fair and equitable price.

  • The credit union difference is most evident in hard times. Unlike most financial institutions, we stand by our members in good times and bad. We understand that bad things happen to good people. And our skilled financial counselors work with our members to get them through the rough times.

COMMITMENT TO OUR MEMBERS

We are committed to providing the best financial products and services to our members. We welcome your input and suggestions. Our members are people and not numbers. Whether you have $10 or $100,000 you are important to us. And you will be treated with the respect you deserve.

  • First Responders are special people deserving special consideration. Whether you are retired or active, volunteer or part-time, the credit union is here for you.

OUR ADVANTAGES

We do not rely on outside sources for funds; we are locally owned by our members. We are not predatory lenders; our loan portfolio is solid and underwritten with integrity. We are not lobbying Washington for a bailout. The nature of credit unions promotes self sufficiency. We do not have to answer to stock holders; Our commitment is to our members and all our profits are returned to the members in the form of fair and equitable loan and dividend rates.

What is a "First Responder"?

Akron Fire Police Credit Union welcomes all "FIRST RESPONDERS" in Northeast Ohio. In addition to Firefighters, Police and Paramedics the credit union has extended membership to "First Responders" and their families.

Who are "First Responders"? They are those individuals who in the early stages of an incident are responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, and the environment, including emergency response providers as defined in Section 2 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 as well as emergency management, public health, clinical care, public works and other skilled support personnel that provide immediate support services during prevention, response and recovery operations.

First Responders are those special individuals who on a moments notice spring into action to serve and protect our communities. Akron Fire Police Credit Union is here to serve these special people. Our products and services are designed around the needs of our members and we are proud to now include "First Responders and Police" into our membership.
